The Social Security System (SSS), in cooperation with Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) of Philippine National Police (PNP), conducted again an “Operation Tokhang” yesterday which led to the arrest of the owner of a security agency for violation of Republic Act 8282 or also known as Social Security Act of 1997.
SSS President and Chief Executive Officer Emmanuel F. Dooc said that the team successfully arrested Ms. Babelyn S. Castillo, owner of Knightwatch Security Agency.
“It is unfortunate that these employers chose to hide from the authorities instead of fulfilling their obligations not only to SSS but also to their employees who suffered the most due to their unscrupulous acts. With this, we would also like to thank PNP-CIDG for their guidance to ensure the success of this operation,” Dooc said.
Based on the resolution issued by the Office of the City Prosecutor in Quezon City, the SSS filed a complaint against Castillo for non-payment of employees’ SSS contributions from November 2009 to June 2010 and March 2011 to August 2011.
Despite issued demand letters and notices, Castillo still failed to submit documents to refute the accusations against her company.
As of September 30, 2011, the accused has a total delinquency of P180,368.34 representing the unpaid contributions and three percent penalty per month.
The warrant of arrest was served to Castillo at her residence in Cainta, Rizal. Prior to the operation, the authorities confirmed that the accused is working as a Zumba instructor and regularly conducts her sessions in the morning.
“The arrest of Castillo is a clear manifestation that SSS will always be persistent in running after delinquent employers. So, we would like to remind them once again to please do the right thing by paying the SSS contributions to secure the welfare of their own employees. Rest assured that the full force of the law will take its course,” Dooc concluded.
