As an endeavor to motivate students to have more passion in reading books, SM City Tarlac held the National Children’s Book Reading Day (NCBRD) celebration on July 18.
The event was initiated by SM Foundation through SM Cares’ Program for children, which aimed to promote literacy and to encourage the development of their love for reading books at an early age. NCBRD was being held simultaneously in all 67 SM Supermalls plus SM China and SMDC Malls every 3rd Tuesday of July every year.
Ms. Michelle Charlene B. Chua, SM City Tarlac assistant mall manager gave an opening remarks, followed by an inspirational message urging the students to engage themselves more in reading books even at an early age from Ms. Emy Ladera, consultant and representative of Tarlac Governor Susan Yap.
There were 100 students ages 6 to 9 years old from Maliwalo Elementary School and Paradise Elementary School were invited to be the audience of the NCBRD. Also Cpl. Arnel E. Villa ,Public Affairs NCO OG7, Mechanized Division Philippine Army was invited and read the book from Vibal Publishing House, Inc. titled, “ Bumabara-bara” and joyfully interacted with the children. While Ms. Michelle Charlene B. Chua, SM City Tarlac assistant mall manager became the storyteller of the book from Anvil Publishing, Inc. titled,” Two Friends, One World” and imparted to the students the moral lessons they could get from the two stories.
Meanwhile all the students were given a book each from Vibal and Anvil Publishing, Inc. and school supplies from National Book Store as their mementos for the NCBRD celebration. SM Foundation is optimistic that through the event their passion for reading books was inculcated and can share to their fellow children the importance and the benefits of reading books at an early age.
