Red tide alert up in Bataan coastal areas

The Department of Agriculture, Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) has raised a ‘red tide’ alert in the Bataan coastal waters after it tested positive for the Paralytic Shellfish Poison.

BFAR identified the coastal waters of Orani, Samal, Hermosa, Mariveles, Limay, Orion, Pilar, Balanga, Samal and Abucay.

The toxin level in the shellfish samples collected from these areas is at 61 to 1200 ugSTXeg/100g which is above the 60 ugSTXeg/100g, according to BFAR. BFAR has advised the public to refrain from eating, gathering or harvesting, transporting and marketing shellfish until such time the toxicity level has gone down at regulatory level.
