Paniqui crowned back-to-back champs in Street Dancing contest

TARLAC CITY – The street dancers of Paniqui town were crowned KanLAHI Festival Street Dancing champions, besting 15 other entries. They were adjudged champions for the second straight year.

The pole-bearing street dancers edged Tarlac city’s group for the crown by a mere .5 percent garnering an average score of 97.15 to the latter’s 97.10-percent. The Municipality of Moncada placed third with a score of 96.65-percent.

For being named winners, the Paniqui street dancers took home the first place cash prize of P75,000 while Tarlac city and Moncada took home P50,000 and 35,000 respectively. The Paniqui dancers
will likewise be granted P500,000 worth of projects for their municipality.

Governor Susan Yap who watched the entirety of the contest was amazed on each entry’s well-choreographed maneuvers.

“They are all great street dancers…all of them are deserving winners,” Yap said.

 The street dancers paraded from F. Tañedo Street to the Maria Cristina Park. The street dancing is one of the highlights of the KanLAHI Festival.

Judges for the competition were Region III Department of Tourism-Supervising Tourism Operations Officer Rosalinda Santos, Olongapo city tourism officer Josefina Rosa Legaspi and Senior Manager of DBP-Malolos Lizel Santos-Lapus.

There were 16 entries in the street dancing competition with the Municipality of San Manuel entering two groups. Others were San Clemente, Capas, Mayantoc, La Paz, Pura, Ramos, Victoria, Bamban, Sta. Ignacia, Camiling and Concepcion.
