Lubao launches Tech4ed center

LUBAO, Pampanga–The municipal government here, led by Mayor Mylyn Pineda-Cayabyab, in partnership with the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), launched on Friday (April 13) a center to house the government program dubbed Technology Empowerment for Education, Employment, Entrepreneurship & Economic Development (Tech4Ed).

The center aims to serve as a delivery channel for relevant ICT-enabled services and content for socio-economic development of “unserved” and “underserved” communities towards improved quality of life.

Tech4Ed evolved from the Philippine Community eCenter Program, a national digital inclusion initiative establishing eCenters that provide critical e-government and ICT-enabled services in communities with minimal or no access to information and government services.

Project components include: establishment of Tech4Ed centers; content development; capability building; and, advocacy and promotion.

DICT representatives–Luzon Cluster 2 Director Cheryl Ortega; Engr. Pablito Dela Peña, provincial field team leader; and, Mikko Rhey M. Alfonso, project development officer–signed a memorandum with agreement with local officials led by Vice Mayor Robertito Diaz.

DICT also donated three desktop computer units and one printer to be used in the Tech4Ed center.

The signing and turnover of donation was witnessed by Councilor Gonzalo Tungul, Municipal Administrator Elizalde Bernal, Human Resource Manager Virgilio Manuel, Public Employment Services Office manager Raquel Lugtu, Sanitation Officer Jovy Ivan Matias and Lubao Tech4Ed Center Manager Adonis Suba.
