MISS Magalang 2018 winner Ma. Lera Roman of Barangay San Francisco is in favor of the closure of Boracay Island in Aklan, saying it is “good for the nature, ourselves and tourists.”
“It needs time to rehabilitate,” added Roman during the only question and answer portion of the beauty pageant held on April 30 at the town
plaza. The Duterte administration ordered the closure of the world-famous island for six months beginning April 26 due to abuse on
its environment.
Roman, who bested 16 other candidates, is the tallest standing at 5 feet 7 ½ inches tall. She just finished senior high school at Republic
Central Colleges and is an incoming Bachelor of Psychology student at the Holy Angel University.
Magalang Mayor Malu Paras Lacson hailed the successful holding of the beauty contest.
“This certainly makes us a progressive and dynamic place. We are no longer a sleepy town,” said Lacson.
“We will now hold the Miss Magalang annually. The last time it was held was in 2015,” added the first-term mayor.
Ryan Miranda, municipal tourism officer who was chiefly responsible for the holding of the contest, said Roman will represent Magalang in the Miss Pampanga beauty tilt this coming December.
