DPWH eyes construction of North East Luzon Expressway by 2019

MALOLOS CITY — Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) eyes starting the construction of the North-East Luzon Expressway (NELEX) by 2019.

“We will finish the feasibility study this year and construction to start (hopefully) next year,” DPWH Secretary Mark Villar said.

Map from the Department of Public Works and Highways shows the route of the proposed North East Luzon Expressway that Secretary Mark Villar wants to start in 2019. It is a 92.1 kilometer toll road that will start from Quezon City traversing eastern Bulacan towns up to Cabanatuan City in Nueva Ecija. (Shane F. Velasco/PIA 3)

NELEX is a 92.1-kilometer toll road that will start in Quezon City traversing San Jose Del Monte, Santa Maria, Norzagaray, Angat, San Ildefonso, and San Miguel in Bulacan as well as Gapan, Santa Rosa, and Cabanatuan in Nueva Ecija.

“Once NELEX is completed, it will decongest the Bulacan and Nueva Ecija portions of Maharlika Highway. It will also serve as fast alternative route for those vehicles bound for Cagayan Valley region. This will be connected to the Central Luzon Link Expressway,” Villar added.
