SM malls in Pampanga, in its desire to provide quality customer service recently conducted a seminar on Proper Handling of Customer with Special Needs and Senior Citizens. This regular initiative is through the SM Committee on Disability Affairs and Senior Citizen, under SM cares program, which strengthens its mission to serve Person with Disabilities (PWD) and the seniors.

The seminar is provided for the mall’s front liners: security guards, janitorial personnel, managers, tenants and SM retail affiliates to educate and provide a safe environment, especially in a country where malling plays a big part in everyday life and to be well equipped in providing better service to persons with disabilities (PWD) and senior citizens.

Joined by professionals in their own fields, facilitators shared their knowledge in providing proper attention. Learners with Special Educational Needs Curriculum Chair Vivian Saulo of San Fernando Elementary School shared proper ways to handle person with visual and hearing impairment and person who is handicapped. Saulo gave everyday scenarios the mall front liners may experience and share proper ways how to handle each one.

Moreover, National Trustee of the Autism Society Philippines Pampanga Chapter President Joyla Ofrecia, tackled proper handling Person with Autism (PWA). Ofrecia said disability is lost when the physical environment allows them to have access. Also extending her thanks to SM for regularly conducting seminars such as this to contribute further in ensuring a blissful shopping experience to special customers. Ofrecia facilitated seminars in SM Pampanga, San Fernando Downtown and Savemore Market Apalit.

Another seminar will happen on February 26 at SM Telabastagan to be facilitated by Joyla Ofrecia and Mary Ann Zamora. Zamora is the Administrative Officer V of Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office, Provincial Officer of Persons with Disabilities Affairs and President of the Central Luzon Federation of Persons with Disabilities.
SM’s organizing such seminars and advocacy are beyond being compliant with the requirements of a person with disability, as far as standard building codes are concerned. SM Supermalls will always nurture the consciousness that customers with special needs and senior citizens must be attended to properly.
