CLARK FREEPORT— The second top official of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) in Region 3 has warned “illegal campaign materials should be removed 72 hours or 3 days before the launching of campaign period for the local candidates on March 29.
This was bared by Comelec Region 3 Assistant Director Elmo Duque during Pampanga Press Club’s News @ Hues forum at Park Inn by Radisson Clark recently.
Duque said the election body has stipulated in its rules the designated areas and sizes for the campaign materials to be used by the local candidates.
He said charges for violation of the Fair Election Act or Republic 9006 will be filed against local candidates who will not remove their illegal campaign posters before March 29.
“Illegal campaign materials should be removed 72 hours before the launching of the official campaign period on March 29 for the local candidates,” Duque furthered.
“If in case illegal campaign materials are not removed before March 29, we will notify the candidates about the presence of the posters,” he stressed.
Comelec, Duque added, has allowed the local candidates the use of 2×3 feet campaign posters in designated areas.
Duque noted that huge posters put up in private properties are not exempted nor allowed under the Comelec rules.
He said candidates should all be aware of Republic Act 9006 as stipulated in their oath of undertaking during the filling of their certificate of candidacy.
