Tarlac gov’s mother joins creator

TARLAC CITY — The mother of  Tarlac Gov. Susan Yap and Second District Rep. Victor Yap passed away last August 5, the provincial information office announced last week.

Zenaida “Zeny” Areno-Yap  succumbed to  lingering illness. She was 86.

Zenaida is survived by her children: Daniel, Cristina, former San Jose Mayor Jose Jr., Governor Susan and Congressman Victor.

She was married to the late Tarlac political icon Jose “Aping” Yap in 1953. They also have two other children who died young named Pedro [second child] and Ma. Teresita [youngest].

“In behalf of the Yap family, we would like to thank all those who attended the wake of our mother, send flowers and mass cards and all those who comforted us during our bereaved hours,” Cong. Victor said.

Gov. Susan for her part said that the throngs of people that attended the wake was a testament that her mother is well loved and well respected.

Mrs. Yap was born on June 5, 1933 at Victoria, Tarlac.

A Holy Mass was likewise offered by the provincial government of Tarlac for the eternal repose of Mrs. Yap’s soul held at the Tarlac capitol’s Bulwagan ng mga Gobernador.

Some of the most prominent personalities that visited Mrs. Yap’s wake were Senate President Tito Sotto, House Speaker Allan Peter Cayetano, former Ambassador Eduardo “Danding” Cojuangco, senators, congressmen and other political, business and religious personalities. President Rodrigo Duterte sent a wreath of condolences.

She was laid to rest last August 11 at Loyola Memorial Park in Marikina after a 6-night wake at their Country Villas, Capitol Hills, Old Balara, Quezon residence.
