CAPAS, TARLAC— The 100-meter run is one of the try out events during the 2019 PATAFA Weekly Relay Series 3 held at the new Athletics Stadium inside New Clark City.
PATAFA or the Philippine Athletics Track and Field Association has long been embarking on the weekly relay series as a try-out program to determine the country’s representatives in the 30th South East Asian (SEA) Games.
“I AM TRULY IMPRESSED.” Cagayan de Oro Second District Representative Rufus Rodriguez, who is also Chairman of the Philippine Athletic Track and Field Association (PATAFA), remarked that the Philippines is on its way to becoming an international center for track and field. At a press conference for the 2019 PATAFA Weekly Relay Series 3 held at the Athletics Stadium of New Clark City in Tarlac, Cong. Rodriguez congratulated Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) President Vivencio Dizon (left) for closely supervising the progress of the project in order for it to be finished in time for the 2019 South East Asian Games. He also recognized the contribution of New Clark City to the development of Capas, Tarlac and the whole country.
Over 300 athletes participated in the weekly relay series—which is also the last qualifying competition for track and field before the 2019 SEA Games. PATAFA is led by Dr. Philip Ella Juico.

Over 300 athletes participated in the weekly relay series—which is also the last qualifying competition for track and field before the 2019 SEA Games. The 20,000-seater Athletics Stadium features a world-class 400-meter, nine-lane standard track.
The 20,000-seater Athletics Stadium in New Clark City is the venue of the ongoing 2019 Weekly Relay Series 3 of PATAFA or the Philippine Athletics Track and Field Association. The events, which include the high jump, 100-meter hurdles and the javelin throw, were held at the newly finished Athletics Stadium, which is certified world-class having met the standards of the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF). It features a 400-meter, nine-lane standard track housed in a structure that takes design inspiration from the “caldera” or crater of Mt. Pinatubo and the organic lahar material of the concrete.
The 1st Philippine National Open Swimming Championships kicked off at the Aquatics Center in New Clark City last August 31, 2019. The tournament gathered 195 swimmers who will compete for the top spot until September 3, 2019. It allowed the country’s finest athletes to test the world-class sports facilities in New Clark City which is one of the main sports hubs of the 30th South East Asian (SEA) Games. Organized by the Philippine Swimming, Inc. (PSI), the event is one of the pre-qualifying competitions in the field of swimming that will help determine the country’s representatives in the SEA Games in December.
The Philippines’ finest swimmers gathered here to test the new 2,000-seater Aquatics Center and compete at the 1st Philippine National Open Swimming Championship. Organized by the Philippine Swimming, Inc., the tournament started last August 31 and will run until September 3, 2019. It includes the following events : 1500m Freestyle for Men, the 800m Freestyle for Women, and the 200m Individual Medley, 200m Backstroke and 50m Freestyle for Men and Women.

Lani Velasco expressed her gratitude to the national government for building the country’s first fast pool made out of steel, which is found in New Clark City. “All of our swimmers were so happy. We’ve got the best pool. Our swimmers will make you proud. They are all excited.” Joining her at the press conference at the newly finished Aquatics Center are Philippine SEA Games Organizing Committee (PHISGOC) Deputy Director General for Athletes’ Village Arrey Perez, Capas Mayor Reynaldo Catacutan, BCDA President and CEO Vivencio Dizon and PSI coaches Lambert Guiriba and Sherwin Santiago. The newly-finished Aquatics Center meets the standards of international governing body—the Federation Internationale de Natation (FINA). The design of the Aquatics Center shows the coastal heritage of the Filipino people, depicting Capiz shells used as windows, while the structural framing mimics the weaving patterns of the “baklad” or woven fish nets.
Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) President and CEO Vivencio Dizon announced recently that the new access road from the Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX) to New Clark City will be open to the public as early as October 2019. In a press conference held during the 1st Philippine National Open Swimming Championship at the Aquatics Center,Dizon shared that with the new access road one can reach New Clark City in 10 minutes or less.
