Taxis and tricycles are allowed to ply the roads of Davao region despite the implemented enhanced community quarantine beginning April 4.
This took effect after Davao Mayor Sara Duterte Carpio signed the Executive Order No. 23 which include provisions on allowing all forms of public transport except public jeepneys.
Under Section 2, allowed to travel are private vehicles and taxis with 1 driver and 1 passenger in front and 1 at the back; tricycle with 1 driver and 1 passenger in front and 1 at the back; single rider motorcycle or bicycle; and free bus rides from the government provided social distancing is observed.
Carpio’s ruling in Davao was initially proposed by Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto but was turned down by Malacanang. Sotto’s supposed violation of Republic Act 11964 led the National Bureau of Investigation to ask for his explanation.
