Search for missing freighter continues

MANILA – The Japanese Coast Guard has continued its sea and aerial search for the missing Gulf Livestock 1 and its 40 crewmembers in the East China Sea, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) confirmed Tuesday night.

In a bulletin sent to reporters, the department said Japan resumed the rescue operation after the typhoon has eased but found no new survivors since Monday.

“The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), through the Philippine Embassy in Tokyo and the Philippine Consulate General in Osaka, reports that the Japanese Coast Guard did not find any clue of missing seafarers in today’s search. The Japanese Coast Guard will resume the sea and aerial search (on Wednesday),” it said.

Last Monday, the DFA confirmed that the remains of an unidentified man found on September 4 were that of a Filipino.

The family of the deceased has cooperated in identifying the remains.

Meanwhile, the DFA assured that the government remains steadfast in providing full support to Filipino seafarers and their families as its foreign service posts and the Philippine Overseas Labor Office in Japan continue to monitor and coordinate the situation with the Japanese authorities. (PNA)
