DENR, BOC intercept imported wastes in Subic

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), Bureau of Customs-Port of Subic have intercepted two containers of waste materials at the Subic Bay International Terminal Corp on Wednesday.

The Port of Subic Collector, Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service (CIIS), Enforcement and Security Service (ESS), and Assessment Division, in collaboration with the DENR had been eyeing 30 containers consigned to Bataan 2020 Inc.                                                                                                                                   

The shipment reportedly arrived from the United States and were declared as old corrugated cartons for repulping. Further examination of the shipment revealed prohibited waste materials which were illegally imported.                                                                                                                             

The BOC conducted an inventory to ascertain the volume and actual contents of the shipment. 

Investigation on the possible violation of Section 1400 of RA 10863 otherwise known as the Customs Modernization and Tarrif Act (CMTA) as well as other pertinent environmental laws are also underway.BOC Port of Subic Collector Atty.
