OLONGAPO CITY – In support of the efforts of the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK), Redondo Peninsula Energy, Inc. with the help of One Meralco Foundation (OMF) established the first IT Eskwela Hub in Sitio Nagyantok, Barangay Cawag, Subic on Tuesday.
OMF, through RP Energy, donated six computers for the facility, which will serve as the barangay’s SK office and library. The hub is envisioned to provide a learning venue to develop computer literacy skills of students and even out-of-school youths in the barangay.
“We are grateful for the tireless support of RP Energy to the youth of our barangay. The computers will be a big help especially for the students here. We will set up a more stable internet connection so they can also use it for research,” said Barangay Cawag SK Chairman Cherilyn Jane Inoc.
“More than just donating computers, we envision the IT Eskwela Hub to be a platform for volunteers to also teach other students on basic computer skills,” RP Energy CSR Manager Jason Gavina, for his part, said.“The lessons range from simple word processing to sending emails. We have provided basic modules which the SK will use, once the pandemic is over, to teach other kids computer literacy,” he added.
In 2018, RP Energy developed a module on Basic Computer Skills which has been used by a pilot class of 10 students in Barangay Cawag. OMF, meanwhile, continuously supports RP Energy’s community efforts in Subic.
The company recently donated 26 computers for the SBMA-Philippine Red Cross Laboratory for the COVID-19 testing laboratory.RP Energy is the developer of a 2x300MW coal-fired powered plant in the Subic Bay Freeport Zone.
