DINALUPIHAN, Bataan – The Office of Civil Defense recently approved a P40 million budget for the construction of a multi-purpose evacuation center in Barangay Colo of this first-class municipality.
This was disclosed by Municipal Mayor Maria Angela “Gila” Garcia during a news briefing with the local press at her office on Friday.
“There is a 6,000 square meters of land in Barangay Colo and the evacuation center will be built in a 1,500 square meter area with a dimension of 15 meters by 30 meters,” Garcia said during a meeting with MDRRMO officials, contractor and representatives from the DPWH who is the lead agency for the project.
The evacuation center will house evacuees from the said town during typhoons and other related disasters or calamities. Dinalupihan is known for geohazards, flooding and landslides especially during the rainy season.
Mayor Gila, a third-termer chief executive, added that she, along with all 46 village chiefs already know the geohazard assessment for each barangay or village. Their barangay officials, she assured, already know what to do in times of disasters or calamities and they monitor round the clock to assess its effects.
