Subic Bay Freeport –The Bureau of Customs-Port of Subic condemned assorted brands of counterfeit cigarettes with an estimated market value of Php 38 million.
According to Port of Subic District Collector Maritess T. Martin, the condemnation was conducted in an accredited facility on April 19 2022 and It was located at Marilao, Bulacan owned by Malia 7 Waste Collection Services through incineration to ensure 100% destruction of the said counterfeit goods on. It was attended by representatives coming from BOC-AOCG, Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA), Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), JTI, and PMFTC.
The 1×40’ container shipment consigned to Subic Red Dragon which arrived at the Port last year was seized and forfeited by the Port for violation of National Resolution No. 079-2005 and Sec. 155 of RA 8293 (Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines), concerning Section 1113 (f) of Republic Act. No. 10863 (Customs Modernization and Tariff Act) after the shipment was found to contain counterfeit cigarettes and clothing against its declaration of assorted textiles.
“I assured the public that the Port will remain vigilant in protecting the country’s borders against the proliferation of illicit goods,” District Collector Martin said.
