CLMA Pampanga, Hann, NCIP champion indigenous advocacy

In anticipation of the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples, the Central Luzon Media Association (CLMA) Pampanga Chapter, in partnership with Clark’s premier destinations—Hann Resorts, Swissotel Clark, and Widus Hotel Clark—held its third-quarter media forum, boldly titled “Discuss WidUs,” on August 8, 2024. This event served as a hybrid version of our weekly “Balitaan at Talakayan.”

The forum aligned with the UN’s annual observance of Indigenous Peoples’ rights, established in 1994, emphasizing the need to protect their cultural integrity and promote their contributions to global issues like environmental protection. This year’s theme focused on Indigenous peoples living in voluntary isolation and initial contact, aiming to understand their unique perspectives while preserving their rights.
In his opening message, CLMA Pampanga president Boy Santiago – RW 95.1FM remarked that the forum was a meaningful tribute to the rich heritage and contributions of Indigenous communities worldwide. Such gatherings emphasize the need to amplify their voices and address the challenges they face, all while promoting the preservation of their traditions and rights. It was a call to action—a reminder that we must work together to create a more inclusive and respectful world.

The forum featured distinguished panelists, including registered social worker and Hann Foundation manager Ronnel Golimlim, NCIP regional information officer Louis Genesis David, and social worker Lina Sanchez from Sitio Mabilog. Their insights underscored the significance of community-focused initiatives, such as the “Drop-to-Adopt 2024 Campaign,” which aims to uplift the Aeta community in Tarlac.
Golimlim, who also serves as president of the Clark Locators CSR Association, highlighted the Hann Foundation’s commitment to inclusivity and sustainability, sharing impactful projects like the rehabilitation of Ospital Ning Angeles, the modernization of the Angeles City Library and Information Center, and the construction of a daycare center in Barangay Nabuclod, Pampanga. These efforts, alongside their collaboration with Swissotel for supplemental feeding programs, exemplify the foundation’s “circular approach,” ensuring lasting positive impacts.

Media forums like “Discuss Widus” play a crucial role in raising awareness and fostering dialogue on pressing social issues. By bringing together key stakeholders, including NGOs, government agencies, and the private sector, these platforms facilitate the exchange of ideas, promote transparency, and encourage collective action. Such forums not only amplify the voices of marginalized communities but also serve as catalysts for meaningful partnerships and solutions that address their unique challenges.

David emphasized NCIP’s dedication to protecting Indigenous rights, lauding partnerships like those with the Hann Foundation as essential for advancing their mission. Sanchez, representing the Sitio Mabilog beneficiaries, expressed heartfelt gratitude for the foundation’s unwavering support, noting how their projects have empowered the community toward self-sustainability.

The second segment spotlighted sustainable hospitality with Widus Hotel Clark showcasing its eco-friendly practices. Assistant Director for PR and Marketing Communications Alex Aquino and Assistant Director of Food and Beverage Dennis Dungca presented innovative approaches, including a fascinating coffee class offering an in-depth look into the world of coffee and its origins, which has become a growing cultural trend and a central part of social interaction and lifestyle. Meanwhile, Aquino introduced Widus’ sustainability efforts and the vitality dishes featured at the After Six Lounge and Café.

Aquino also announced the 16th Grandest Wedding Fair in Central Luzon: Wedding Destination Pampanga, happening from August 9 to 11, 2024, at SMX Convention Center Clark. Visit them at Booths 8 and 17 to enjoy special rates, exclusive discounts, and freebies—including accommodation when you book a package from Widus Hotel Clark.

As echoed in the recent Philippine M.I.C.E. Convention 2024 slogan, “Mabuhay, We Take Your Business to Heart!” the Discuss WidUs forum marked a significant contribution to the global celebration, fostering understanding and advocating for Indigenous communities through impactful collaboration.
