Korean faces charges for Clark gas fire

A Korean national is facing multiple charges after allegedly causing a fire at a gas station and creating a disturbance in Clark Freeport early Thursday, October 31.

According to the Mabalacat Police Station, led by Colonel Efren David, the suspect, 41-year-old Sunbin Yim (alias Ben), is set to be charged with Malicious Mischief, Grave Scandal, and Attempted Homicide, said Sergeant Regie Lace, Officer on Case.

The incident began when a fireman saw Yim, naked, inside a parked car near the Freeport’s fire station. When Yim noticed someone approaching, he slowly drove off, prompting the fireman to alert the command center, which dispatched security personnel across the area.

A police chase followed, and Yim allegedly struck a security officer on a motorcycle before being cornered at a gas station. Trapped between two police cars, Yim attempted to escape by crashing into a fuel pump, igniting a fire. Security personnel detained Yim shortly after he exited the vehicle.

Clark Development Corporation Security Services Group Vice President Lina Sarmiento reported that firefighters quickly contained and extinguished the fire. Yim was treated for burns at Rafael Lazatin Memorial Medical Center in Angeles City.
