The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed a P47.8-million slope protection structure along Susubaen Creek in Ramos, Tarlac, aimed at preventing flooding and safeguarding the community and agricultural lands.

DPWH Regional Director Roseller Tolentino explained that the flood control project includes slope protection and road enhancement components.

These components comprise surface courses, earthworks, bank and slope protection work, and a drainage system designed to strengthen defenses against rising floodwaters.

“An integral component of this design is the hydraulic gate to effectively control water flow within the system, ensuring improved water distribution across the area,” he said.

The municipality of Ramos, known as a hub for rice and corn production, faces recurring flooding issues that endanger its farming communities and local economy. These challenges prompted the government to invest in long-term flood control measures.

Funded under the 2024 General Appropriations Act, the project is expected to enhance residents’ livelihoods, improve accessibility, and foster a safer and more prosperous community. (CLJD/RPQ, PIA Region 3-Tarlac)
