Senatorial candidate and former Ilocos Sur governor Luis “Manong Chavit” Singson underscored the importance of integrity in leadership during the 202nd-anniversary celebration of Divine Word College of Vigan on Saturday.
“If you lose your credibility, you are a nobody,” said Singson, who is running for the Senate under the slogan “May Isang Salita” (A Man of His Word). He shared that his father instilled in him the value of credibility, which he believes is the foundation of effective leadership.
Singson, listed as No. 58 on the Senate ballot, highlighted his deep connection to Divine Word College, which he credits for shaping his values. “I studied here, but I had to leave for Manila because it was unsafe for me to stay,” he revealed.
At the event, Singson discussed his vision for modernizing public utility vehicles (PUVs), including electric vehicles, which he promised to personally fund. “I will finance this transition myself,” he pledged.
He also introduced the VBank initiative, aimed at addressing the financial exclusion of 77% of Filipinos without banking access.
Singson announced a cash giveaway of ₱5,800 each to 5,800 individuals from December 15 to February 11, 2025—exactly 58 days before the campaign period begins.
Ilocos Sur Governor Jerry Singson, a fellow alumnus, praised the institution’s role in shaping leaders with integrity. The event celebrated Divine Word College’s legacy in producing influential figures, including Chavit, who transformed Ilocos Sur from one of the poorest provinces to among the wealthiest.
“Leadership begins with credibility,” Singson emphasized, urging leaders to stay true to their promises.
Singson meet the leaders in Tarlac province today December 8 in Gerona town.
