The highly anticipated 5150 FAB Recon Race has concluded with resounding success, showcasing the Freeport Area of Bataan as a prime destination for sports tourism and triathlon enthusiasts. Held yesterday, December 8, 2024, this simulation triathlon served as a precursor to the inaugural 2025 5150 FAB Triathlon, drawing athletes to experience a course that is both challenging and breathtakingly scenic.
Mervin Santiago, an experienced triathlete, shared his thoughts on the event: “The transition area was very organized, and the swim course was amazing – the water was calm and clear. The bike course was a bit challenging, especially going out of Camaya Coast, but that’s what makes it exciting. The scenic rolling hills with views of the West Philippine Sea are just breathtaking. This course is like the ‘New Zealand of Bataan.’ The run course was flat and fast, perfect for beginners. Overall, it was a fulfilling experience.”
Samantha Lo, who completed her first-ever triathlon, echoed the sense of accomplishment:”This was my first triathlon, and while I had limited preparation, the support from the team and organizers made all the difference. The bike course was tough, but I pushed through, and finishing this challenging event felt incredible. The surroundings were peaceful, which helped me focus and recover. I’d definitely recommend this race to others and can’t wait to do my next triathlon.”
The recon race provided a glimpse of what athletes can expect next year. Starting at the Camaya Coast and culminating at the FAB Admin Building, the course integrated challenging climbs, rolling hills, and flat running paths to cater to both seasoned athletes and beginners.
