CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — Mayoral aspirant Mylyn Pineda-Cayabyab vowed to improve health services in this city should she be elected mayor in the the local elections in May next year.
Pineda-Cayabyab made this promise in a political caucus in Barangay San Agustin, one of the most vote-rich villages of the city.
The former Lubao town mayor and two-term provincial board member said the city’s annual budget of over P2-billion can well accommodate improved health programs if given thorough planning and consideration.
Pineda-Cayabyab said rural health units (RHUs) need to the increased to provide 24-hour medical services to residents. This is to allow for quick medical responses especially in areas that are far from hospitals.
Essential maintenance medicine for hypertension, diabetes and uncontrolled cholesterol and triglycerides levels should also be made available in the RHUs to arrest the increase of more serious illnesses like heart failures, kidney or liver diseases.
The provincial government, she said, continues to receive requests for assistance from patients with renal problems, which are preventable with early management.
Close to 400 individuals from the capital city are among the thousands of patients with kidney diseases that file for assistance from the provincial government for their dialysis treatment.
Pineda-Cayabyad said this number would have been arrested had early detection and management been employed thru free regular laboratory tests and maintenance medicine.
“We will make this all available in the city. Starting with regular medical missions with free laboratory tests and available medicines, even just the generic yet efficacious varieties,” Pineda-Cayabyab said.
The people of San Fernando need not go to the provincial government for assistance because the city can satisfy all their medical requirement if funds are used judiciously, she added.
