Aquino, Castro lead in Mabalacat survey

MABALACAT CITY, Philippines—Mayoral candidate Geld Aquino and his running mate, vice mayoral aspirant Jun Castro, emerged as the frontrunners in a recent survey conducted on January 9 and 10 , 2025. Aquino secured 47 percent of respondents’ support, leaving incumbent Mayor Cris Garbo trailing with 38 percent. Meanwhile, 15 percent of voters remained undecided.

For the vice mayoral race, Castro garnered 58 percent of the votes, significantly outpacing Win Win Garbo, who received 28 percent. The undecided voters in this category accounted for 14 percent.

The survey was carried out by university students in Pampanga under the guidance of the Pampanga Research Group. Commissioned by a group of local businessmen, the study aimed to capture public sentiment ahead of the May 2025 elections.

A total of 200 respondents, aged 18 to 70, were randomly selected for the survey. Participants were asked about their preferred candidates for both the mayoral and vice mayoral positions.

Aquino, known for his platform emphasizing inclusive growth and social services, appears to have gained traction with voters dissatisfied with the current administration. Similarly, Castro’s focus on economic development and youth empowerment has resonated strongly with constituents.

Observers note that the survey, while limited in scope, provides a snapshot of voter sentiment as the election draws closer. With a significant portion of voters still undecided, the coming months will be critical for all candidates to solidify their positions.
