Dismissal case vs Garbo, councilors not final

The Office of the Ombudsman’s decision to dismiss Mabalacat City Mayor Crisostomo Garbo and several city councilors is not yet final, as a partial motion for reconsideration has been filed to challenge the ruling.

Vice mayoral candidate Jun Castro submitted the motion on February 3, 2025 seeking a review of the Ombudsman’s decision. While details of the motion have not been fully disclosed, Castro is reportedly pushing for a reconsideration based on legal and procedural grounds.

The dismissal case stems from allegations of misconduct and irregularities within the Mabalacat City government.

Under the law, government officials facing dismissal by the Ombudsman can file motions for reconsideration or elevate the case to the Court of Appeals. Until a final ruling is issued, Garbo and the affected city officials remain in office.

Castro’s motion is expected to prolong the legal battle, adding another layer of complexity to Mabalacat City’s political landscape ahead of the upcoming elections. The case has drawn public attention, with residents and stakeholders closely monitoring its developments.

As the legal process unfolds, the Ombudsman will review Castro’s arguments before issuing a final decision. If the motion is denied, Garbo and the councilors may explore further legal avenues to contest their dismissal.
