DA declares food security emergency

The Department of Agriculture (DA) has declared a food security emergency for rice starting Monday, February 3, 2025, in an effort to stabilize prices and ensure affordability for consumers.

As part of the emergency measures, the National Food Authority (NFA) will begin selling rice stocks at select outlets, including Kadiwa ng Pangulo sites, local government units, government agencies, and government-owned and controlled corporations.

The NFA rice will be made available at a controlled price of P36.00 per kilo, significantly lower than prevailing market rates. This move aims to cushion the impact of rising rice prices on Filipino households.

The DA has assured the public that it is closely monitoring the supply situation and working with stakeholders to prevent potential shortages while maintaining the affordability of the staple commodity.
