AC gov’t cited for peace efforts

ANGELES CITY — The local government here under the leadership of Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin, Jr. received a plaque of appreciation for its active participation to promote inclusive and sustainable peace.

The award was given to the Angeles City Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict by the Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation and Unity, formerly Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process, led by Secretary Carlito Galvez, Jr. on June 24, 2022.

The plaque reads, “For their active participation in pursuing the Philippine Peace Process
and strong resolve for sharing their leadership and experience to work for peace, in collaboration with the government through the Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation and Unity.”

Mayor Lazatin expressed his gratitude to the OPAPRU for citing the city government’s efforts in enforcing and attaining peace and order in the community, particularly at the grassroots level.

“We are ensuring that our office will always remain open to our constituents,” Lazatin said.

“We are also in intensified coordination with the Philippine National Police, as well as in the barangay level to share our goal in finally ending the conflict in the country,” Lazatin added.

To recall, President Rodrigo Roa Duterte signed executive order (EO) 158 on Dec. 27, 2021 to reorganize and rename the OPAPP to the OPAPRU, expanding its operation of the government’s peace-building efforts and peace engagements in the country.
