Al Qaeda member nabbed in Iba

CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga — A suspected member of a global terror group “Al Qaeda” was arrested by operatives of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group following a raid at the hotel in Iba, Zambales dawn Monday, police said.

Police Colonel Christopher Abrahano, regional chief of the 3rd Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit (3RCDU), stationed in this police camp, identified the suspect as Cholo Abdi Abdullah, of Kenya, East Africa and temporarily staying at Rasaca Hotel in Iba town.

Abrahano said Abdullah was sworn in as a regular member of the Al Qaeda terror group sometime on 2012. He said the suspect’s group is operating in Eastern Africa.

In his report to Police Major General Amador Corpus, Director of the CIDG stationed at the PNP National Headquarters in Camp Crame, Abrahano said Abdullah’s arrest was covered by Operation Plan “Paglalansag Omega” and “Salikop”, a flagship project of the CIDG.

Abrahano said the suspect was collared on the strength of a warrant of arrest issued by Judge Emmanuel Silva of Mariveles, Bataan Regional Trial Court for alleged violation of Republic Act 10591 also known as Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Act and Explosives.

Abdullah did not resist arrest as he led the policemen to his room where guns and explosives are kept, said Abrahano.

Policemen found a 9mm caliber pistol, an improvised explosive device (IED), hand grenade and other bomb-making materials inside Abdullah’s hotel room.

Abdullah was taken to the CIDG Headquarters in Camp Crame where he underwent tactical interrogation as illegal possession of fierarms and explosives are being readied against him.
