Bataan Children Welfare Council conducts webinar on Child Labor

About 100 members of the Bataan Provincial Council for the Welfare of Children (PCWC) participated in a webinar on matters pertaining to Child Labor.

It served as an orientation to the members to identify possible cases of child labor in their communities as well as matters to prevent such cases.

Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office Head Marilyn Tigas said the webinar aims to raise awareness and give a wider understanding on the issues of child labor and its difference to child work as well as eliminate child labor cases in the province.

“As a parent and as a member of the council, it is our responsibility to give protection to our children as well as the youth,” Tigas emphasized.

She added that there are still a lot of child abuse cases including child labor being recorded in spite of the pandemic.

Topics discussed include Republic Act 9231 otherwise known as “An Act Providing For The Elimination Of The Worst Forms Of Child Labor And Affording Stronger Protection For The Working Child”, hazardous working environment for children, and child labor case situation in the province.

As of March 2021, Department of Labor and Employment has recorded a total of 495 child laborers in Bataan.
