Bataan to convert old Capitol building into a temporary hospital

BALANGA CITY — The provincial government is eying to convert the old Capitol building into a temporary hospital to cater to non-coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases of the Bataan General Hospital and Medical Center (BGHMC).

Governor Albert Raymond Garcia personally inspected the offices in the building to ensure if Capitol employees occupying the building are ready to transfer to The Bunker, the new Capitol building.

“Currently, we are preparing it, and I already gave my instructions to the department heads especially those who are still occupying offices in the building,” Garcia said.

The governor added that container vans are ready to pick up office supplies and equipment, while telephone lines and internet connections are being set up in The Bunker.

Prior to this, BGHMC Chief Glory Baltazar already inspected the building to ensure its capability to accommodate patients.

On April 21, Baltazar revealed that 55 of the BGHMC healthcare workers including doctors, nurses and nursing attendants, tested positive to COVID-19.

As BGHMC is now designated as an exclusive COVID-19 hospital, Garcia and Baltazar are speeding up the process to immediately respond to the needs of other patients.
