The country needs “better laws” that will protect Internet users, according to a subscriber of the Converge ICT Solutions Inc which had been receiving flak from consumers.
The mounting complaints against the alleged “poor service” of Converge cropped up as House Minority Leader Danilo Suarez told Globe Telecom and Smart Communications to shape up or their franchises will be revoked.
If poor services continue, these communications giants may lose their franchises, Suarez said.
“Mobile communication plays an essential role in our daily lives, that we cannot imagine living without our mobile devices and internet connection. However, instead of improving connectivity, network providers continue to disappoint their customers with their poor services,” according to Suarez.
Among the complaints include missing or delayed text messages, dropped calls, static lines, weak signal, slow internet speed, unresponsive technical support, erroneous billings, and misleading advertisements.
“We need better laws in setting the required Internet connection service. Currently kasi, masyadong mababa ang required speed na hinihingi ng batas,” said Converge subscriber Eyds Patawaran Carreon, a professor in the City of San Fernando.
Carreon said: “We are the only country that pays the most expensive internet service pero we also have the slowest connection.”.
“I would want to see what Converge will do to address the issue. To be fair, bibigyan sila ng chance ng mga subscriber to solve the issue. The complaint to NTC is a last resort if the problem is not resolved and the provider stopped its efforts to solve the problem,” Carreon said.
Carreon had already sent his complaint at the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC). “Despite the message I sent them, wala pa rin tayong naririning from their part. Sana may mga steps man lang ang government agency para proteksyunan ang subscribers.”
Suarez pointed out the “abuses” of telecommunications giants Globe and Smart. “Parang ang point ko diyan eh abuso na ‘yan eh. Ngayon, pinaalalahanan ko lang kayo, Globe and Smart, ‘yung prangkisa ninyo, binigay namin. May karapatan kaming bawiin ‘yan.”
