Bulacan commemorates Ople’s 92nd birth anniversary

On the celebration of his 92nd birth anniversary , the spirit, wisdom and legacy of the late statesman Gat. Blas F. Ople continues to linger and inspire the nation.

Thousands of Bulakenyos and top provincial local officials paid tribute to one of the most illustrious sons of Bulacan on Sunday morning.

The Provincial Government of Bulacan gave a tribute to Ople, a great Bulakenyo journalist and politician on his 92nd birth anniversary which coincided with the unveiling of a commemorative marker in the Gusaling Gat Blas F. Ople Sentro ng Kabataan, Kaalaman at Hanapbuhay held at the Livelihood Training Center in the City of Malolos.

The program anchored on the theme “Pagpapatuloy ng kanyang nasimulan sa larangan ng empleyo at kabuhayan”, started with the wreath laying ceremony at the monument of Ople in the Old Gat Blas F. Ople Building led by Commission on Audit Chairman Atty. Michael G. Aguinaldo together with Governor Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado and Vice Gov. Daniel R. Fernando.

They were accompanied by the first family of Ople headed by his wife Susana, siblings Board Member Felix Ople, Susan Toots Ople and niece/ nephew Board Member Ayee Ople and City Councilor Jong Ople.

The activity was followed by unveiling of the commemorative marker at the Livelihood Training Center beside the Old Blas F. Ople Building. It was attended by other local officials, boy scouts, Lingkod Lingap sa Nayon members, Mother Leaders, Barangay Health Workers, and employees of the Provincial Government of Bulacan and Department of Education among others.

Aguinaldo cited the Eight-Point Labor and Employment Agenda wherein one of it is to enhance the protection and security of laborers outside the country to achieve the desire of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte for every workers.

“It is our duty to not only make sure that the expenditure and use of the people’s resources is justified and correct, and that government projects are being implemented in an efficient and effective way,” Atty. Aguinaldo said.

Ople who also been the secretary of Labor and Foreign Affairs became famous first as the columnist behind the “Jeepney Tales” for the Daily Mirror before being appointed and elected in different offices including Social Security Commissioner, Secretary of Labor and Employment, Senate President and Secretary of Foreign Affairs. He was also a member of the Constitutional Commission that drafted the Philippine Constitution of 1986.
