CLARK FREEPORT – True to its commitment to contribute towards environment care inside this Freeport, the Clark Development Corporation is set celebrate environment month with its annual recycling event on November 7 this year.
The event will be the 15th Annual Recyclables Collection Event (RCE) being conducted by the CDC in cooperation with the accredited waste collectors on recyclable and hazardous waste materials.
CDC Environment Permit Department Manager Rogelio Magat said participants during the collection of hazardous wastes are Dolamatric Phils. Inc. (DPI), Inkline Trading, Oriental & Motolite Marketing Corporation (OMMC), Positive A Envirotech Specialist (PAES), and Semirecycling Co. Inc. (SCI).
The event is in partnership with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources-Environment Management Bureau Region III (DENR-EMB- III) which aims to promote proper waste management through recycling or recovery of
recyclable materials.
Last year, the recycling event here yielded a total amount of P541, 388.50 in waste materials from various locators inside this Freeport.
CDC is also helping create better awareness among various small and medium- sized establishments and residents in Clark on proper handling of hazardous waste management. A program through treatment and disposal as common hazardous wastes like busted lamps, waste oil, used lead-acid batteries (ULAB), and empty ink cartridges and toners has been implemented.
According to Magat, if not properly disposed, a small amount of mercury content of a broken fluorescent lamp could contaminate the environment which can be as big as an Olympic-size swimming pool.
Under existing laws, only appliances with lead and mercury contents and residues such as TV and computer monitors with cathode ray tubes have been considered hazardous.
The event will be held at the parking lot of CDC Bldg. 2127 along Ninoy Aquino Street here.
