China top buyer of Mercedes-Benz worldwide

CLARK FREEPORT — China is the largest market of Mercedes-Benz today with a record of at least 400,000 car sales this year.

Thus, said Heiko Nitsche, chief executive officer of Mercedes-Benz Group Services Philippines, Inc. (MBGSP), during a press conference at the inauguration of their five-storey building here on Nov. 28.

Nitsche said that next to China, United States is the second largest market of Mercedes-Benz while Germany ranks third. Nitsche said that around 230,000 to 240,000 cars were sold in Germany. He added that 85 percent of their global sales are outside Philippines.

“We are serving over 25 countries around the world, with operations round-the-clock five days a week. When it comes to markets, the largest market is China. China is a very informed market, “ Nitsche said.

The Mercedes-Benz group sold 3.7 percent more vehicles in September this year, with increased SUV sales and a surge in Chinese demand, according to the company’s official website.

Nitsche also said that the company is now focusing on finance and accounting operations. “We are expanding that scope in terms of content as well as in terms of regions,” he added.

“The Clark site was borne out of the business community management program which is geared to give added operational stability, security and a world-class business solution. Clark was chosen for its strategic geographical exposure, talent pool and IT infrastructure,” the Mercedes-Benz group added in a press statement.

The MBGSP chief also reported significant business growth in the Philippines, especially in Clark and in Cebu, where their primary national office is located.

He said the MBGSP will provide complete financial and accounting, as well as consultancy services for Daimler Group companies in Germany and in 25 countries. MBGSP is a fully owned subsidiary of Daimler AG.

Daimler AG is one of the world’s biggest producers of premium cars, and commercial vehicles. The company was founded by Gottlieb Daimler and Carl Benz, inventors of the automobile in 1886. It ranked 17th in Fortune 500’s top global corporations in 2016. (end)
