Chinese researchers have found traces of SARS-CoV-2, the virus causing COVID-19, in the semen of men who recovered from the viral disease raising the possibility it could be sexually transmitted.
A group of medical experts in Shangqiu Municipal Hospital, China have tested 38 male patients admitted last January to February 2020 and confirmed evidence of the virus in six men.
Shangqiu team said it’s not a surprising finding as many viruses can live in the male reproductive tract. But finding the evidence does not yet confirm it is infectious.
Abstinence from sexual contact or use of condom is recommended among infected patients.
