CSF celebrates National Heroes Day

Local officials in the City of San Fernando led by Vice Mayor Jimmy Lazatin on Tuesday offered wreaths in front of the monuments installed at the Heroes Park in observance of National Heroes Day.

These heroes are Dr. Jose Rizal, Don Pedro Abad Santos, Jose Abad Santos, Andres Bonifacio, Tiburcio Hilario, Nicolasa Dayrit, Benigno Aquino and the World War II Marker monument.

Fernandino students from Nuestra Senora Del Pilar Integrated School perform Bonifacio’s poem “Pag-Ibig sa Tinubuang Lupa” during the celebration of National Heroes Day on August 29.

Also present during the wreath laying ceremony were Councilors Angie Hizon and Harvey Quiwa, department heads, heroes’ relatives and city hall employees.

This was followed by a short program at the Mini-Convention Center wherein Bonifacio’s renowned poem “Pag-Ibig sa Tinubuang Lupa” was performed by the students from Nuestra Senora Del Pilar Integrated School to commemorate the martyrdom of the fallen heroes.

In his speech, Lazatin stressed the importance of honoring and recognizing the heroes’ courage, patriotism and sacrifices in exchange of the country’s freedom that we enjoy today.

He also urged everyone to continue the good and noble deeds of the national heroes in their everyday lives.

“We can choose to be better Fernandinos by doing what is right. Let us all be Mabuti, Magaling at may Malasakit sa Kapwa. We can be heroes even in simplest way.” Lazatin added.
