CSF goes all-out against pollution

The City Government of San Fernando is making an all-out effort to fight the hazardous effects of different types of pollution on the environment and human health.

Pollution Control Officers from the City Environment and Natural Resources Office, City Health Office and private sectors on Thursday underwent a training course on Environmental Laws and Management.

CENR Officer Engr. Anele David said the seminar is coordinated with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources- Environmental Management Bureau Region 3 and will run until November 24.

“Two days of the seminar is allotted for the discussion of various environmental regulations and mandates including the Philippine EIS System (PD 1586), The Clean Water Act (RA 9275), The Clean Air Act (RA 8749) and Toxic Substances & Hazardous Wastes Act (RA 6969),” David added.

“For its last part, the participants will have a lecture on Self-Monitoring Report (SMR) and Compliance Monitoring Report (CMR) before proceeding to the post examination” she furthered.

Mayor Edwin ‘EdSa’ Santiago, in his speech, underscored the importance of keeping the PCOs updated on the new environmental guidelines or standards for they serve as key players in protecting and preserving the natural resources in our city.

Santiago added that ‘the city mission catalyzes actions to develop a livable and ecologically-balanced community to enhance the quality of life of Fernandinos.

The city is observing National Environmental Awareness Month and Clean Air Month this November.
