In line with the celebration of 17th Cityhood Charter Anniversary or Kaganapan 2018, the City Government of San Fernando headed by Mayor Edwin “EdSa” Santiago through its City Environment and Natural Resources Office held a Citywide Clean-Up Day on February 1.
Anchored with the theme “Pagkalinga sa Kalikasan at Kapaligiran, Kaligtasan ng Buhay ay Makakamtan, all major waterways, thoroughfares, vacant lots and roads were cleaned by the employees of the Local Government of San Fernando, other government agencies and private sectors.
CENRO Officer Regina Rodriguez said the annual activity seeks to increase environmental awareness to Fernandinos in attaining a clean and healthy environment.
“Parte ng kaunlaran ang kalinisan, kaya naman napakahalaga na ang bawat isa sa atin ay alam natin ang ating mga responsibilidad sa paglingap sa ating kalikasan ng sa ganun ay magkaroon pa rin ng malinis at maayos na kapaligiran ang mga susunod na henerasyon,” Rodriguez said.
In his speech, Mayor Edwin “EdSa” Santiago said a clean environment is an integral part in achieving a sustainable city that is why one of the city’s top priority programs is the environmental protection and preservation. He believes that by implementing good environmental practices Fernandinos will have a healthy and peaceful life.
“Let us do something good for our environment. Kung gusto nating magkaroon ng maunlad na Syudad, huwag nating kalimutan at hayaan na masira ang ating kalikasan, dahil ito ang magdadala sa atin sa itaas. Kaya naman natutuwa ako at malaki ang aking pasasalamat sa mga boluntaryong nakibahagi ngayon upang samahan tayong abutin ang ating layunin na magkaroon ng maayos at malinis na Syudad,” Santiago said.
Also present during the activity were City Councilor and Committee on Environment Reden Halili, Kaganapan 2018 Chairperson Jun Pineda, City Engineer’s Officer Engr. Anele David and City Investment and Promotions Officer Engr. Remedios Agoncillo.
