CSF promotes good nutrition

In line with the celebration of Nutrition Month, the City Government of San Fernando through its City Agriculture and Veterinary Office conducted “Cassavalicious Cooking Challenge” on July 25.

Home Economics teachers from different public schools of the city participated in the said activity.

CASSAVALICIOUS COOKING CHALLENGE.Home Economics teachers from the different public schools of the City of San Fernando, showcase their skills in cooking during the Cassavalicious Cooking Challenge held July 25. The activity is line with the celebration of Nutrition Month.

Each team showcased their skills and creativity in cooking three dishes with cassava as the main ingredient. Proper sanitation was observed also during the competition. Participants must leave their work station neat and tidy.

City Agriculturist Cristina Sangumay, said the aim of the activity is to promote innovative nutritious yet affordable foods. She also discussed that cassava is next to rice because of its carbohydrates and protein content.

“Ang cassava ay maaaring maging alternatibo ng kanin, pampalakas din ito ng enerhiya at katawan gaya ng kanin. Kaya naman, hinihikayat ko kayo na maghain ng masusustansyang pagkain na makakatulong sa inyong katawan, gaya ng cassava.” Sangumay said.

In an interview, Mayor Edwin “Edsa” Santiago stressed the importance of having a good nutrition. He believes that good nutrition can help reduce the risk of some diseases. He also emphasized that being healthy, is the key of success in life.

“Mahalaga na ang lahat ng Fernandino ay malalakas at malulusog ang pangangatawan, dahil dito nagsisimula ang pagiging maunlad sa sarili at syempre pati na rin ang pag-unlad ng Syudad San Fernando.” Santiago added.

Meanwhile, the winners for Cassavalicious Cooking Challenge were Pampanga High School (1st place), San Jose Juliana Elementary School (2nd place) and Nuestra Senora Del Pilar Integrated School (3rd place).
