BALANGA CITY — Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Bataan recognized Tuesday outstanding barangays in the province for their exemplary performances on developmental programs, anti-drugs campaign and good governance.
During the “Husay Barangay 2019: Pagkilala sa Matino, Mahusay, at Maasahang Barangay sa Lalawigan ng Bataan” held in Balanga City, DILG Provincial Director Myra Moral-Soriano expressed gratitude to the barangay officials who showed hard work last year.
“We are measuring your competence. Like what our Secretary Eduardo Año said, let’s make our constituents feel our professionalism and dedication to public service by complying with the national government,” Soriano said.
Out of 237 barangays in the province, 13 were awarded for attaining ideal or high level of functionality of their respective Barangay Development Council (BDC).
Barangay San Carlos in Mariveles town topped the awardees for obtaining the highest functionality score of 109.
DILG conducted the audit by assessing the structure, people or human resource component, systems, people’s participation in local development and innovations and good practices of their BDC.
In addition, 78 Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Councils (BADACs) achieved a high level of functionality with all 19 barangays in Pilar town receiving the award.
BADACs were assessed in terms of their organization, action plan, allocation of fund, implementation of anti-drug programs and other indicators.
“What President Rodrigo Duterte really want is to strengthen all BADACs in the country and here in Bataan, we complied with the desire of the President,” Soriano added.
Also, 89 barangays received the Seal of Good Local Governance for Barangay for passing all core areas namely the financial administration, peace and order, and disaster preparedness, and at least one of the three essential areas which include social protection, business-friendliness and competitiveness and environmental management.
For his part, Governor Albert Raymond Garcia cited the role of the punong barangay in keeping the community safe and urged them to continue practicing good governance.
“I want to thank all of you for your cooperation, dedication, hard work, and efforts for your barangay and for our constituents,” Garcia said.
