Dinalupihan to launch own community radio

DINALUPIHAN, Bataan – This town will soon have its own official radio station via 98.5 megahertz on the FM band, municipal mayor Maria Angela S. Garcia said last Wednesday.

Garcia added that despite the prevalence of the social media sites in information dissemination, some of her constituents still don’t have access to the internet or some are not always online hence they have decided to establish their own community radio station.

“Sa pamamagitan ng radio station na ito mas madali naming maihahatid ang aming mga importanteng impormasyon kagaya ng suspension of classes, mga bagong proyekto at iba pang mahalagang balita,” Garcia told I-OrbitNews.

The lady mayor also said that aside from playing relaxing music for their listeners, they will be allotting talk show programs with specified topics on health, latest programs from the municipal government, latest ordinance and other important issues that are of big concerns for their constituents.

“Each day we will have two hours of news and information program. One hour in the morning and another hour in the evening for our most important announcements for the day,” Mayor Garcia added.

The mayor also added that they are also looking forward for a possible partnership with their local cable television company to augment their information efforts.

In many parts of the country, community radio stations served as a vehicle for the community and voluntary sector, civil society, agencies, NGOs and citizens to work in partnership to further community development aims, in addition to broadcasting. They broadcast content that is popular and relevant to a local specific audience and generally, nonprofit but provide a mechanism for enabling individuals or groups to tell their own stories and to share experiences.– MHIKE R.
