DOST, BPSU upgrade Bataan fish processors’ skills on food safety

BALANGA CITY — The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and Bataan Peninsula State University (BPSU) upgraded the skills of fish processors in the province on food safety.

The two-day training aimed to improve participants’ skills in basic food hygiene and good manufacturing practices, empowering them to understand and implement crucial food safety standards effectively.

DOST OIC-Provincial Director Catalina De Leon-Cruz emphasized the training’s significance in ensuring the safety and quality of processed fish products.

“This training includes participants from the city of Balanga, and the municipalities of Pilar, Orani, and Dinalupihan, who are producers of smoked fish or tinapa, and dried fish or tuyo,” she added.

Cruz also underscored that by equipping fish processors with food safety knowledge and techniques, they actively enhance their businesses while also contributing to the overall health, safety, and well-being of consumers.

Meanwhile, BPSU-Main Campus Research and Development Office Chairperson Ernesto Triguero expressed gratitude for the partnership between DOST and the state university, highlighting the collaborative effort in advancing the fish processing industry in Bataan.
