Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed the construction of facilities at new Aurora Sports Complex in Baler town.
DPWH Secretary Mark Villar said its completion will boost the economy of the province of Aurora as one of the country’s premier tourist destinations especially during summer.
“The completed outdoor sports complex has a swimming pool, an oval track, and a grandstand that can accommodate around 2,000 spectators during large convention and events,” he disclosed.
“Construction was almost stopped due to the pandemic, but we had to deliver this outdoor sports complex to serve not just athletes but also the public as they now have a spot for their exercises, be it jogging or biking,” Villar added.
Implemented in phases, the new Aurora Sports Complex involved construction of a perimeter fence, three viewing stands, and grandstand for a total project cost of P99 million which was funded under the 2019 General Appropriations Act.
The project is anticipated to benefit Aurora’s tourism industry with the holding of sports tournaments once the quarantine restrictions are lifted. (CLJD-PIA 3)
