Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) completed two flood mitigation projects along the Peñaranda River in the province of Nueva Ecija.
The infrastructures are located at barangay Rio Chico in General Tinio town and barangay Sinasajan in Peñaranda town.
DPWH Nueva Ecija 2nd District Engineer Elpidio Trinidad explained that the 0.994-kilometer flood wall structures were constructed with a steel sheet pile foundation.
It will manage erosion, reduce long-term flooding effects on nearby communities, and enhance the river’s water management system as the Peñaranda River merges into the Pampanga River leading to Manila Bay.
“These engineering measures are part of the District Engineering Office’s ongoing commitment to safeguarding communities and properties from inundation, especially during adverse weather conditions,” Trinidad pressed.
A total of P184 million was allotted for the projects under the 2023 General Appropriations Act. (CLJD-PIA 3)
