The Duterte administration has adopted several policies which are quite popular to people. Aside from the all out war vs. criminality, there are a few more which are highly acceptable to the public, particularly the end of job contractualization.
There is a question now and it started in the senate and proposed by the senator from Batangas, Ralph Recto. He said: “The Duterte administration should practice what it preaches and end the contractual employment of the more or less 120,000 workers in government.” To my mind it is only fair to end the contractual status ( job order) of those in the national agencies covered by general appropriations fund and include also those employed now by the local governments, provinces, cities and towns. What is good for the goose is also good for the gander, as we commonly say.
In this regard, let’s give the country’s business sector a round of applause for supporting our popular President Digong’s aggressive posture vs the ‘Endo’ practices which were completely ignored by the unlamented Aquino administration. (In case some people don’t know yet, particularly our countrymen living in many countries all over the world, ‘endo’ became a part of the Filipinos’ dictionary and it means the practice of hiring employees for only five months in order for employers to dodge paying the workers some benefits).
For many years this endo practice became a permanent pattern and many young people contentedly accepted such arrangements for there are virtually no other options available, except if they are lucky enough to find jobs abroad. Now many of the Filipino workers are seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.
