Inaprubahan ng House Committee on Agriculture and Food ang panukalang batas ni Bataan 1st District Rep. Geraldine B. Roman para sa pagtatayo ng Bataan Rice Research and Development Center.
Ang House Bill 4626 ay naglalayon na tulungan ang mga magsasaka na mapalago ang kanilang kita sa pamamagitan ng nabanggit na rice research center para matutunan ang mga proactive promotions sa kanilang produksyon at matuto rin ng mga marketing ng kanilang mga rice based products.
“HB 4626 aims to establish a Rice Research Development Centre in the first district of Bataan. The original idea is to establish it in a town of Dinalupihan, after consultations with the president and members of the College of Agriculture of the Bataan Peninsula State University, I have decided and I am proposing for your consideration to amend the bill to rename it as Bataan Rice Research and Development Center to be located in the Abucay campus of the Bataan Peninsula State University,” pahayag ni Roman sa kanyang sponsorship speech via Zoom virtual meeting.
Sa naturang deliberasyon, nagpahayag ng pagsuporta ang Philippine Rice Research Institute (PhilRice) Executive Director John De Leon sa panukala ni Roman bilang isa sa mga pangunahin o concerned agencies na makikipagtulungan sa pagtataguyod ng Bataan Rice Research and Development Center (BRRDC).
Ilan sa mga pangunahing duties at functions ng BRRDC ay ang patuloy na pananaliksik at pagsasama sama ng mga programa at mga pag-aaral para sa rice-based development sa pamamagitan ng mga siyentipikong pamamaraan para umunlad ang mga kaalamang teknikal at entrepreneurial skills ng mga magsasaka.
Itatayo ang naturang proposed Rice Center sa Abucay Campus ng Bataan Peninsula State University (BPSU) at pamumunuan ng isang Executive Director na itatalaga ng Pangulo ng Pilipinas sa pamamagitan ng rekomendasyon ng Kalihim ng Kagawaran ng Agrikultura.
