Hermosa leads 1st PPP on environment in Bataan

HERMOSA, Bataan — Mayor Antonio Joseph “Jopet” R. Inton recently held a ceremonial memorandum of agreement (MOA) signing with a private firm for the “Development of the Hermosa Ecopark and Rehabilitation and Operation of the Municipal Sanitary Landfill.”

Inton said they have entered a public-private partnership (PPP) agreement with Truckshers Waste Management and Hauling Services, Inc.

The move is in line with the municipal government’s proper adoption and compliance of several national laws on Solid Waste Management, and the Water and Clean Air Acts.

Inton said the project’s initial goal is to develop the decommissioned open dumpsite in Barangay Mambog here and transform it into a sanitary landfill and eventually turn it into an ecological park.

The development of the site is the main component of the entire project involving basic sectors of the municipality namely — out of school youths, senior citizens, barangay health workers along with village officials in all barangays.

Solid waste management groups dubbed as “ecoguardians” including wastes segregators will be formed and trained in the proper solid waste management which will soon be a part of their livelihood endeavors.

The area’s material recovery facility will be utilized and will also have a residual containment area, water treatment facility and will follow the basic components of an ideal landfill.

The project also aims to transform the area into a bird sanctuary and will also have a greenhouse.

Hermosa LGU, Inton added, also aims to be the province’s model in promoting the “3R Policy” (reduce, reuse and recycle) in order to create a sustainable society, a society that pursues environmental protection as well as economic growth. –Text & Photo by Mhike R. Cigaral
