The House of Representatives has passed on third and final reading House Bill 8261, an act mandating the full rehabilitation, upgrading, and maintenance of the Roman Superhighway in the province of Bataan.
The bill, authored by Bataan 2nd District Rep. Abet Garcia, aims to strengthen the integrity of the said road by converting it into an “all weather road”, which means a road that allows travel in all weather conditions and prevents flooding or bogging. Congressman Garcia said this would ensure the safety and convenience of the motorists and commuters who use the road to access various destinations within and outside the province.
Rep. Garcia said that he would endorse the bill to the Senate for their own legislative process. He also thanked his colleagues and constituents for their continuous support in pushing for beneficial laws for the people of Bataan.
The Roman Superhighway, also known as the Bataan Provincial Expressway, is a 50-kilometer road that connects the municipalities of Mariveles, Limay, Orion, Pilar, Balanga, Abucay, Samal, Orani, Hermosa, and Dinalupihan in Bataan.
The road is considered as one of the vital infrastructures in the province, as it serves as a gateway to various industrial zones, historical sites, tourist attractions, and natural resources in Bataan. It also connects to the Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX) and the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX), which link Bataan to other regions in Luzon.
