After months of hiding and his arrest in Abu Dhabi, alleged drug lord Kerwin Espinosa has arrived in the country early morning today, Nov. 18.
He arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) on board Philippine Airlines flight 657 around 3:41 a.m.
Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Ronald Dela Rosa and a team fetched Espinosa from the NAIA. Espinosa was escorted by PNP personnel led by Senior Supt. Albert Ferro, assisted by Philippine Ambassador to the UAE Constancio Vingno, Jr.
Espinosa was transferred to the PNP Custodial Center in Camp Crame soon after arriving. He is expected back the testimony of his slain father, Albuera, Leyte Mayor Rolando Espinosa Sr., who supposedly named several politicians as protectors of the drug trade.
Espinosa, in a short interview before arriving in Manila, denied he is a drug lord, but admitted to being involved in drugs.
He said he sold drugs, but he had stopped.
He and his father were earlier tagged by no less than President Rodrigo Duterte as involved in the bigtime illegal drug trade in Eastern Visayas.
Fearing for his life, Espinosa was assured by Dela Rosa that he will not die when he returns to the Philippines and suffer the same fate as his murdered father.
Securing Espinosa, Dela Rosa said, will be the PNP’s top priority.
Espinosa also begged the president to ensure his and his family’s safety.
