Lazatin to award medal of excellence to 48 students

ANGELES CITY – Some 48 outstanding students from public and private schools here will receive their medal of excellence, certificate of recognition, and financial assistance from the Angeles City Government via house-to-house distribution beginning on Monday, July 13.

Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin, Jr. said this is the commitment of the city government to recognize the endeavors of students both in academic and extracurricular activities, as well as to inspire them to value the essence of education.

“This event also serves as the continuation of my father’s legacy, the late former Angeles City Mayor and Pampanga 1st District Representative Carmelo ‘Tarzan’ Lazatin,” he added.

The city government, thru the Angeles City Economic Development and Investment Promotions Office (ACEDIPO) led by Irish Bonus-Llego, will carry out the house-to-house distribution as part of the Lazatin administration’s dedication to provide quality education to Angeleños, Executive Assistant IV Reina Manuel says.

Manuel also reiterates that “only one recipient was allowed to be submitted by the school – one from the whole population of the graduating elementary batch and one from the finishing high school batch.”

Moreover, according to Llego, the candidates for the medal of excellence were chosen from a sample of the top 10 percent graduating students of an institution both in elementary and high school levels.

The criteria for the medal of excellence is as follows: 40% for outstanding performance in Mathematics, Science, Computer/Information Technology, and English; 25% for Organization/Participation within the campus and outside the campus; 15% for history of leadership; 10% for campus contribution; 5% for the call of the student body; and 5% for faculty’s preference.
